Heading into my 50's, I had been working out with various personal trainers for about 3 years and while I had noticed improvements,
I had hit a plateau in my motivation, even though I still wanted to lose weight. Having joined a gym closer to home,
they recommended Janice who started training me about 6 months ago.
Soon, I found that she was motivating me to do a bit more each session. She encouraged me to do longer workouts until I was
starting to run for about 10 minutes on the treadmill (an achievement in itself, given that I had never motivated myself to
run longer than about 3 min.) Slowly I began improving and Janice started talking to me about her triathlon experiences,
how she had started with an introductory tri-it and that she felt that I would be able to do the same. We made it a goal - one
I didn't really believe I could do. Janice continued to enthusiastically work with my strength training, encouraged my running
and gave me a training schedule that I was to follow for running, biking and swimming.
She encouraged me constantly and pushed me hard enough that I started to see improvements; my body became fitter than it
has ever been and before long I was even running 20 minutes. With trepidation, I signed up for the tri-it event at Coral Springs
this summer. The week before, Janice took me on the 2.5 km run and 10 km bike ride so that I would feel more comfortable.
It was hard but I finished the tri-it - in no small part, because of Janice's positive encouragement and her training methods
tailored for me.
I am now so motivated that I have enrolled in Janice's running clinic, I have plans to improve my swimming and my biking, and
together we have set the next goal for me which is to be able to complete another mini tri-it or possibly the sprint triathlon.
Janice is not just a skilled professional trainer who cares about her clients, but an incredible young woman who knows how to
help you tap into parts of your physical abilities and mental attitude that you never realised you had.
Thanks Janice

Janice MacAulay has been my trainer at the Riverside since the fall of 2007. I find it difficult to recommend her highly enough.
She was exactly what I needed and continues to be.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and was finding my mobility and strength waning. Janice has helped me to develop core strength and
limberness I didn’t think possible. I no longer fear falling and I am able to do things I haven’t been able to for years.
I continue training with her because of her knowledge and expertise. She is also a purely delightful young woman.

A little over a year ago I decided I had had enough! I was tired of being short of breath whenever I climbed one flight of stairs;
I was tired of having trouble making it around 9 holes of golf; and I was tired of being tired all the time. I had no excuse – there
was a gym right across the street from work and they were offering a discount. I went the first day – and then didn't go again for a
week. It wasn't looking very promising for me. I could see that I was going to need help.
As part of the package the gym also offered a consultation with a trainer. I surreptitiously watched the three trainers go
about their business with their clients and after a few days I decided that "the girl" was my best bet. Maybe I thought she
would be easier on me – HA!
Janice MacAulay has not been a pushover. She chipped away at my bad habits and soon I found myself signing up for two days a week – who
knew this exercise thing could make one feel so good!?! When a friend asked me for a recommendation for trainers at Riverside
I had no hesitation in recommending Janice because I was enthusiastic about the changes I was seeing in my own health.
I had biceps muscles! And a waist! I still had a belly – but it was less of a belly. And I had more energy – much to my husband's
delight. And so….I found myself working out with Janice THREE times a week – twice with my friends and once one-on-one.
All this work is helping me to look at my life in a new way – with more insight and understanding. And all the behavior
modifications and healthy, life-affirming habits that Janice has introduced into my life will be with me for the rest of my life.
It's hard – but Janice has been an awesome guide – she is pointing me in the right directions so that behaviors and choices
that I have to think about now will eventually become gut instinct. Because of Janice's help I know that I can do this - because
I am doing it right now and she has helped me to realize that I can keep doing it.
